HomeThe official website of the original 18 Foot Skiff Class. To promote new skiffs, old skiffs and innovation. 18 Foot Skiffs are amongst the most exciting sailboats ever conceived. They are typically faster than multi-million dollar yachts of five times their length. The 18 Foot Skiff Class was born in the 1890's to satisfy a need for a boat which was within the means of the "average man" and would provide good competitive racing to attract public interest. The overall aim of the NSW 18 Skiff Class Association (NSW18) is to foster open design and competition of sailing craft where the principle limitations are that it be monohull and not longer or wider than 18 feet. Races are scored for handicapped and elapsed times.
18 Foot Skiffs are known as Flying 18's because they skim over and
leap out of the water. |
